UGL has achieved 100% design verification in developing the Corridor Intrusion Detection System (CIDS) and Obstacle Detection System (ODS) for the Sydney Metro Southwest project from Sydenham to Bankstown.
This initiative ensures safe train operations as the Sydenham to Bankstown corridor transitions to Unattended Train Operations (UTO).
Designed to detect intruders or obstacles within the corridor, the systems enable the operations centre to swiftly address potential threats, maintaining the safety and reliability of the rail network.
These intrusions will be identified using an advanced optical fibre detection system, followed by CCTV camera verification, enabling operators to assess and respond to the situation in real-time.
This innovation marks the first time such a system has been designed and implemented in Australia, setting a new standard for rail safety technology in the country.
“UGL is proud to lead the way with the first-of-its-kind Corridor Intrusion and Obstacle Detection System on the Sydenham to Bankstown line, ensuring safety and innovation,” Stuart Hosie, UGL Operations Manager – Communications and Technology Systems.
