From free skate clinics and basketball sessions to gaming tournaments and a workshop for budding entrepreneurs, the City of Sydney is hosting a series of exciting events to celebrate Youth Week from 11 to 21 April.
Held each year, Youth Week is home to activities organised by young people, for young people, in communities across the country. This year’s theme is ‘Express. Empower. Get loud!’.
With many events coinciding with school holidays, Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO, said there is a range of activities for 12 to 24 year-olds to enjoy.
“So much of what we do is focused on making Sydney a great place to study, work and live, not only now but well into the future,” the Lord Mayor said.
“We want an inclusive, connected and engaged community in our city, and hosting a whole lot of fantastic events in partnership with young people is one way to create just that.
“Lots of young people live in inner Sydney, and we hope you enjoy this year’s program of events.”
Local Youth Week festival highlights include:
- Youth Xpress at Redfern Community Centre on Friday 12 April, featuring an afternoon of free music, food, a skate clinic and deck art sessions, a silent disco and a business and employment workshop. Groups that provide services to young people will also attend to answer questions and distribute resources.
