Best Aussie charcuterie products announced

The exceptional quality of Australian smallgoods was celebrated at the 2024 Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards (ACEA).

Hosted by the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) in partnership with Australian Pork Limited and MLA, this prestigious event showcased the nation’s finest producers, honouring their craftsmanship and innovative products.

Held at the Shangri-La Hotel, the awards recognised champions across 35 categories, with over 800 entries ranging from traditional ham and bacon to unique specialties like duck terrine and wagyu bresaola. Now in their third year, the awards highlight the excellence of Australian charcuterie and its growing reputation as a premium product category.

Judges, including master butchers, celebrity chefs, and industry experts, were impressed by the calibre of this year’s entries. The judging process focused on craftsmanship, with 17 entrants achieving near-perfect scores. These awards are vital in promoting smallgoods to consumers, encouraging their use in everyday meals.

In a significant development, next year’s gold medal winners will have the opportunity to compete at IFFA, the leading international meat and protein trade fair in Frankfurt. This marks the first time Australian smallgoods will be showcased on a global stage, further cementing the industry’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

Consumers can look for the ACEA medal on packaging as a mark of quality and industry standards.
