Lower North Shore Councils Unite to Tackle Domestic and Family Violence

Community leaders across Sydney’s lower north shore have joined forces to take a strong stand against domestic and family violence.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker recently convened a roundtable with the NSW Women’s Safety Commissioner, mayors from neighbouring councils, including Mosman, Lane Cove, and Willoughby, and representatives from police, government agencies, and frontline service providers.

The gathering marked a united effort to develop coordinated strategies to better support victim-survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and drive systemic change. Mayor Baker highlighted the urgency of the issue, pointing to the shocking statistic that 78 women across Australia lost their lives in 2024 as a result of gender-based violence.

As part of the initiative, all participants signed a joint statement condemning all forms of domestic and family violence. The statement affirmed their collective commitment to fostering safer, more respectful communities and working together across all levels of government and the service sector.

This collaborative approach reflects the growing recognition that effective prevention and response to domestic and family violence requires united leadership and sustained action.
