In addition to customer demand, the impetus for SunSoaked Bella was a personal one for Brisbane-based SunSoaked designer and founder Kate Davis-Steer as she explains,

“When swimsuit shopping for my 13-year-old daughter I realised that stylish, sun safe options were virtually non-existent for tween and young teens in favour of itsy, bitsy bikinis. With melanoma being the most common cancer for young Australians (15–39 year olds) and on the rise, I felt compelled to extend the core women’s collection and create SunSoaked Bella.

Both SunSoaked Bella and SunSoaked SS18/19 women’s campaigns feature not only diverse models but everyday women and girls, part of their social media movement #SunSoakedSisterhood.

Kate says “Sunsafety is a form of self-love and self-care. And as a mother of a young teen, I am very passionate about SunSoaked’s role in disrupting the messages our girls are getting. Therefore, all our campaigns celebrate girls and women of all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicities to fully represent the beautiful diversity of our global SunSoaked Sisterhood.”

Kate continues “It was perfect timing with the popular #twinning social media trend to create beautiful matching UPF 50+ pieces to not only encourage sunsafety but spread SunSoaked’s core values of body confidence, beauty diversity and ageless style across multiple generations”

SunSoaked’s SS18/19 campaign named “Festa del Sole” or “Sunshine Party” has a nostalgic 70s vibe to it back to a time before social media, comparison and the need to be perfect.

Kate explains “I’m humbled every day by messages from women thanking me for changing their lives and creating confidence boosting sunsafe swimwear that means they no longer watch their children play in the surf or pool, but are now making memories with their loved ones knowing they are sunsafe and feel body confident. I wanted to create a campaign film that captured that SunSoaked feeling so the vibe of my SS18/19 collection was old school carefree fun in the sun with the added bonus of maximum sun safety.
