Shopping centre, Harbourside, has just opened a new, state-of-the-art play area, Caterpillar Lane. Over 40 metres long, Caterpillar Lane comes complete with interactive digital panels, climbing towers, slides, light projection games, as well as a special soft play area for children four years and under.

Located on Level 2, the unique play area is for little ones between the ages of 1-8, and has been separated into three parts – starting at a friendly giant caterpillar head overlooking Level 1. The head of the caterpillar, for children between 4-8 years old, is a soft play structure across multiple levels filled with gross motor play events, including integrative gadget panels of Cat & Mouse and Walk Around Zoo; a spider bungee; jumbo slide; triangle deck climb; along with lots of space for little legs to run amuck.

The body of caterpillar is a colourful arch with light projections and four touch screens, fun for children between 1-8 years old.

The tail of the caterpillar is for ages 1-4 years, complete with six interactive gadget panels, including classics Tic, Tac, Toe, Cat & Mouse and Mix & Match; a safari play car; a butterfly play slide; triangle deck; spider bungee; and more.

Harbourside Centre Manager, Alexa Arnott, commented, “We’re excited to announce the opening of Caterpillar Lane because it is so far beyond a traditional retail playground. The caterpillar encompasses active learning equipment and digital integration to provide kids with essential gross motor skills and mental stimulation, while parents watch on from the lounges”.

The playful addition of Caterpillar Lane at Harbourside further solidifies the centre’s position as a family and tourism destination in the Sydney CBD, with over 25 dining options over looking Sydney Harbour, nightly and monthly kid-friendly celebrations on Darling Harbour, a host of local and international retailers, as well as free Wi-Fi making sure all can stay in touch while children are entertained.

Harbourside is located at 23 1/2-10 Darling Dr, Sydney. Just a quick walk from Town Hall station, and can also be accessed by light rail to Prompt Bay.

For those driving, the Harbourside Car Park is located on Murray Street, Pyrmont under the Novotel and linked by a covered footbridge to the shopping centre. Customers who spend $40 or more on shopping or dining can show their receipt at the information desk before 9 pm for a discount on parking.
