Lift a weight off your mind

Resistance training could reduce depressive symptoms in adults, according to an international study that brought together the data from 33 clinical trials, including a total of 1,877 people.

The improvements were evident even when only a light weight-lifting regime was undertaken, and the exercise worked to reduce symptoms in both fit and unfit participants, say the researchers.

Resistance training should be considered as a treatment for people with depression, they suggest.
