Inquiries continue after teen driver evades RBT & crashes – Lidcombe

A P-plate driver remains in hospital after he allegedly accelerated from an RBT then crashed and rolled in Sydney’s Inner West.

Police from South West Metropolitan Highway Patrol were conducting random breath testing on Parramatta Road at Homebush about 1.40am (Sunday 18 February 2018), when a driver – who had been stopped for testing – allegedly drove off.

Police engaged in a pursuit but it was terminated a short time later.

The driver continued west along Parramatta Road before he lost control at the intersection of Bombay Street, Lidcombe, mounting the footpath and hitting a brick fence.

The vehicle continued into a light pole, hit three vehicles parked in a car sales yard, then rolled onto its side.

A 19-year-old man was arrested by Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) officers a short distance away.

The Guildford man was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries; to undergo mandatory testing.

Investigations into the incident continue while the man, who has been released from custody, remains in the care of hospital staff.
