Assault and attempted robbery of 77-year-old man at Lidcombe

A 77-year-old man was assaulted by two men who attempted to steal his phone at Lidcombe and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

About 1.45am (Thursday 11 January 2018) the man crossed Joseph Street, Lidcombe, and began walking down Railway Street when he was punched in the back of the head and kicked by two men, causing him to fall to the ground.

One of the men tried to grab the older man’s phone before they walked off. They were last seen heading towards Remembrance Park.

The man, who suffered cuts and bruising, sought assistance at a nearby hotel and police attended a short time later.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about the two men.

They are both described as being of Asian appearance with one of them wearing a blue shirt, and police will speak further to the victim today to obtain more information.
