Man, 78, robbed at ATM – Bankstown

A 78-year-old man was assaulted and robbed after leaving an ATM in Bankstown and police are appealing for assistance as their investigations continue.

About 10.50pm on Wednesday 1 November 2017, the man withdrew money from an ATM at Greenfield Parade, Bankstown and began to walk away when he was approached by a man.

He told police the man hit him in the face and took the money, with a nearby witness running to assist the 78-year-old.

The man was chased into a nearby alleyway but managed to escape. He was last seen heading towards Stewart Lane, Bankstown.

The 78-year-old man suffered a minor cut to his face but was not otherwise physically injured; however he was shaken by the incident.

Detectives from Bankstown Local Area Command have been conducting extensive inquiries into the incident and are releasing CCTV of a person they believe can assist with their inquiries.

The CCTV depicts a male of Asian appearance with a thin build, and wearing a white baseball cap, a black short-sleeved polo shirt, dark-coloured patterned pants and black slide sandals with white socks. He was wheeling a black bag and carrying a white satchel.

Anyone who knows this person’s identity or anyone with information to assist detectives is asked to call Bankstown Police via Crime Stoppers.
