PACT presents an immersive mini festival – PACT Salon: Skeletons and Self-Portraits
On Saturday 29th July 2017, PACT centre for emerging artists will present an immersive mini festival, Skeletons and Self-Portraits – a collection of works showcasing female artists who are challenging perceptions about strength and vulnerability.
The second event in the PACT Salon Series, Skeletons and Self-Portraits has been curated by writer and actor Emily Dash, and will explore how one’s perception of themself often differs from the view of others.
The event will also examine what grounds people in reality, what is left behind throughout life, and what will eventually outlast us.
Over four hours, Skeletons and Self-Portraits will feature movement and dance performances by artists Kay Armstrong and Cheryn Frost, a dramatic performance from Brianna Harris, screenings of short films by Emily Dash, and live music from Jessica Wiel.
Installations will also be displayed throughout the PACT building including Lorraine MacLarty’s series of portraits depicting the moment when a secret is revealed to an artist; and an interactive installation where artist Louise Kate Anderson invites the audiences to ask any question (no matter how personal) in the hopes of breaking down the barriers around mental health and invisible disabilities.
“I’m thrilled that Emily is curating the second PACT Salon, she’s an incredible artist and she’s programmed a fantastic event,” said PACT Artistic Director and CEO, Katrina Douglas.
“I’m particularly excited that Skeletons and Self-Portraits is entirely led and performed by women. Gender equality is central to everything we do at PACT and we are proud of our long history of supporting and developing some of the best female artists in Australia. Skeletons and Self-Portraits builds on this success by showcasing a group of brilliant, provocative artists.”
Skeletons and Self-Portraits is the second of three PACT Salons presented across 2017, proudly supported by the City of Sydney and Arts NSW.
