Sydney aims for best in NSW state business awards

An impressive list of City of Sydney-based businesses will compete with companies from across the state for top honours at the 2016 NSW Business Chamber State Business Awards.

A mobile technology firm, international wine brand and dog products company are among the nine Sydney businesses whose achievements were celebrated at the Sydney City regional awards in July 2016. Now they will attempt to take higher honours on Friday 25 November 2016 at Luna Park Sydney.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore congratulated the small to medium-sized business finalists, with significant impacts ranging from helping kids with hearing loss through to businesses trying to break into China.

“These awards showcase the terrific energy and sheer diversity of Sydney’s business community,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Small to medium businesses are the driving force of our city economy, representing 85 per cent of all businesses in our area and contributing nearly $20 billion to the economy. At the last floor space and employment survey, this sector represented 40 per cent of all jobs growth in the city.

“As a sponsor of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards, we look forward to celebrating and showcasing the innovative ideas, talents and successes of Sydney’s small businesses on the state-wide stage.”

In 2016, a digital agency that allows its staff to bring their dogs to work took home the Excellence in Business, Employer of Choice and overall Regional Business of the Year category awards.

Sitback Solutions has experienced a 16 per cent year-on-year revenue growth. Over the last 24 months it has exceeded productivity targets, including retaining 100 per cent of its 37-full-time staff members, who can place a doggie bed next to their desk.

“By cultivating working conditions of joy, hard work and professionalism, we can retain our employees and work with our clients long term,” said Paul Armstrong, founder of Sitback Solutions.

The City is a proud sponsor of the state-wide Excellence in Small Business category award, and has recently boosted its sponsorship of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards to create an expanded regional awards program.

The three year expansion program will allow all local businesses from 2017 to enter the Sydney City Regional Business Awards whether or not they are members of a local chamber.

The 2016 Sydney City award winners competing in the state-wide finals include:
